Summary of our "record breaking" December indoor meets

Posted by Emmaus High School Track and Field Team on Dec 19 2021 at 01:50PM PST

In the past, we have waited to participate in indoor meets until the end of December/early January since we run our program as a club. But this year, we decided to start earlier and take advantage of the 4 Ursinus College indoor meets for consistency. A lot of great things happened. Here is a summary of our top performances, including 2 records broken:

1. Junior Aiden Hurlburt won pole vault both meets, and not only broke the indoor pole vault record, but also broke the long standing outdoor record of 13-6.25 from 1974! That’s right – a 47 year old record! He vaulted 13-7. This is just the start, so we will wait and see just how much higher he can soar by the end of this year, but a huge congratulations to him for this history breaking achievement!

2. His teammate, freshman Tyler Grabisnki, is not far behind placing 2nd in this weekend’s meet clearing 12-6! He also technically broke the previous indoor pole vault record. Pretty exciting for a freshman!

3. Junior Evan Loro placed 1st place in this weekend’s triple jump, getting his best jump by several feet of 40-0.75! If that wasn’t great enough, he also broke our indoor long jump record now at 19-7.25, a huge best jump for Evan!

4. Our boys 4×800 meter relay earned a 3rd place medal, Freshman Conor Fisher, Senior Holden Brown, Sophomore Tyler Finck, and Junior Oscar Felegy with a time of 8:52.25!

5. Our girls 4×800m relay also earned a 3rd place medal, including Sophomore Addison Kleinle, Senior Belle Lees, Freshman Isaballa Scarlata, and freshman Payton Campbell with a time of 10:28.90!

6. Our girls Distance Medley relay earned a 2nd place medal, with a time of 13:16.37, Sophomore Addison Kleinle, Senior Bethany Brown, Senior Belle Lees, and Junior Hailey Reinhard!

7. All 3 girls hurdlers advanced to finals between the 2 meets. Hadlee Horvath advanced in the Dec 11 meet, and Bethany Brown and Isabelle Russo advanced in the Dec 18th meet ending up with a 6th and 8th place overall, all finishing with indoor 55 hurdle PR’s!

8. Belle Lees placed 2nd overall in the 3,000m with a significant time drop of over 20 seconds, at 11:10.94! Payton Campbell wasn’t too far behind in her 3,000 debut finishing 4th with a time of 11:36 .72, the only freshman who competed in the event!

9. Hailey Reinhard placed 2nd in the 800m, with a lifetime best time of 2:22.71!

10. And last but not least, not only once, but twice, Senior Didro Augustin ran a 7.02 in the 55m dash, just missing the indoor record by 0.01 seconds! He is surely consistent!

For those who have not participated in indoor meets, keep working hard! Trust me, we are watching and noticing who is putting in the work to be able to compete at a higher level. We continue to run trials and measure in order to determine who is eligible and ready to compete! If you don’t get the opportunity to compete this indoor season, remember you are working to prepare for the Spring track and field season! If you get qualifying marks during spring season, you then get the opportunity the following indoor season.

Training plans for our holiday break will be sent out through remind text.

Work hard, be prepared, and have fun!
